Voice & Piano Instructor at Houston Conservatory of Music
Héctor Matamoros is a professional opera singer, voice instructor, and piano teacher with 12 years of teaching experience. He studied at the University of St. Thomas in Houston and received vocal training under Frances Fenton Lytton and Dr. Joan Allouache.
As a lyric leggero tenor, Héctor brings his professional vocal training and performance experience directly into his teaching. He has worked with students ranging from young children to adults, tailoring his approach to each student’s individual abilities, personality, and musical goals.
Héctor teaches voice at all levels and beginner to intermediate piano. His areas of instruction include healthy vocal technique, musicianship, interpretation, audition and competition preparation, solo and role preparation, and individualized musical development. For young pianists, he incorporates structured methods such as Piano Adventures while encouraging musical expression and confidence from the very beginning.
Above all, Héctor believes that every student has a unique musical voice. His goal as a teacher is not simply to teach notes and technique, but to help students develop confidence, artistry, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for music.
